I have been a comprehensive planner since beginning my career in the financial industry, and had always affiliated with so-called “unbiased” independent firms. It has always been my goal to seek TRUTH. I believe in the saying that all growth starts with the TRUTH and that the TRUTH can set you free. In fact, I have spent a good deal of time questioning my assumptions and searching for the TRUTH.
The TRUTH I have discovered is that the term "financial planning" can be greatly misunderstood. The brokerage, insurance and financial planning firms frequently parade celebrities in the media to endorse their products. These institutions promote market timing, stock picking, and track-record investing as the solution for peace of mind with regard to money and investing. In addition, financial planning software is used to perpetuate the sale of their products by using fear and greed as motivators.
Many people whom I have advised in the past have worked with multiple advisors or large, well-known firms, only to find that their experience was similar each time. They had often put their money into the hands of advisors, hoping that they knew what they were doing and that they wouldn’t mess up. After being enlightened with the TRUTH of the financial industry as it relates to the investor, I realized that financial firms are part of the problem, and not part of the solution. I could no longer do business the way I had for so many years. For this reason an amazing transformation occurred and I created the Wealth Coaching Experience.
The wealth coaching process can provide you with the tools to put you on the path toward “peace of mind” about your financial future. It can help you find happiness as it guides you in the TRUTH of investing, by teaching you how to make wise choices as you journey through your life’s stages. It is all about your relationships and what you value, not your net worth.
What follows is an eye-opening view of the investment industry from two guys who have been there, done that, and “got the tee-shirts.” Chances are if you have been an investor for any length of time, you may be able to relate too much of what we say. You may also find that you have fallen victim to several of the traps that have been set by (even possibly well-meaning) members of the financial community.
The first part of this book will help you more fully to understand the problems faced by investors in today’s rapidly changing markets. Most people only see the symptoms of the real issues they face as investors. They usually have a gnawing sensation telling them that they aren’t getting adequate returns, there is something wrong with their investments, or that they are paying more in taxes than they should. It is rare that they get a glimpse into the root cause of the problems.
The first step, therefore, is to take a hard look at the true nature of the problem and identify the illusions faced by most investors. The next important step is to discover the right questions that, if answered, can lead you to peace of mind you desire about your money. Investors are so conditioned to look for product solutions to their investing problems that they seldom stop to consider that asking the right questions is the key to the insight they need to achieve a greater sense of satisfaction about their investments.
